Budgeting

Students should work out a complete budget covering living, accommodation, tuition, health and entertainment expenses. Travel costs and child care, if applicable, must also be taken into account. General information about the cost of living in Australia can be obtained from Australian diplomatic missions and international student offices at education institutions.

Costs vary according to the course chosen and the institution. International students can undertake undergraduate, postgraduate course work and higher degree research programs. Fees range from $A4800 to $A14 000 a year. Institutions may also make an additional charge to cover other costs associated with being a student, for example, student union membership, library and laboratory costs and sports facility costs.

Tuition fees in Australia for international students are competitive with other countries, especially if current exchange rates are taken into account.

Many institutions charge enrolment fees, payable at the time of application. Other charges may include: student union fees; parking; and library access. Some courses make specific charges for excursions, books, stationery and other essential materials.
